INITIAL PUBLIC OFFERINGS -- IPOs and DPOs
Traditional, Via-The-Web, and Combination Old-New Methods
How long is a company an "IPO"? Our practical definition is this: After going public a company will probably be an "IPO" for about a year. After that, look for it through our Small Company Page.

What is the difference between an Initial Public Offering (IPO) and a Direct Public Offering (DPO), conducted over the Internet? We predict that in a few years there won't be any difference. Read more about Hambrecht's new Open IPO Website and
Epoch Capital Partners new approach, below. On the other hand, will the traditional IPO/DPO become extinct? As we progress through the first decade of the 21st century there is a growing trend for companies to go public via methods other than the traditional IPO! Reverse mergers with a shell company and dividend-distribution spinoffs are becoming increasingly popular.

UNDERWRITERS, BROKERAGES, and INVESTOR RELATIONS FIRMS
An increasing number of underwriters, brokerages and corporate lawyers give you information on the companies they are bringing public. Check the following for current IPOs.
- Open IPO by W. R Hambrecht
-- Long a traditional underwriter, Hambrecht has opened a website to revolutionize the way IPOs are presented. Through their impartial, Internet-based blind auction system, they hope to give the individual investor a fair shake in a system similar to the one used by the U. S. Treasury to auction its 10-year notes and 30-year bonds.
-
Epoch Capital Partners
-- With brokerage backers Schwab, Ameritrade and TD Waterhouse, plus venture capital firms Kleiner Perkins and Benchmark Capital, Epoch aims to mostly serve individuals as well as some institutions that agree not to flip IPO shares. Per an article at Fortune online, if they succeed they could turn the IPO market on its ear.
- Hale, Dorr, et. al. Law Firm
